Prepare the design discussion
A clearer starting point for landscape planning
Consider before starting the project
- Main design goal Describe whether you want a complete garden concept, planting redesign, outdoor living area, improved circulation or another landscape transformation.
- Current garden character Explain what the existing outdoor space feels like, which elements you want to keep and which areas currently feel unfinished or disconnected.
- How the space is used Identify whether the garden is mainly used for relaxing, dining, entertaining, gardening, movement between areas or a combination of different activities.
- Design priorities Include useful preferences about planting, privacy, pathways, seating, seasonal interest, atmosphere, garden structure and the level of maintenance you prefer.
Landscape preparation notes
- Before design Note the main areas of the garden, existing planting, established features and any practical limitations that should be considered as the concept develops.
- Planting preferences Share preferred colors, textures, seasonal qualities and the overall atmosphere you would like the planting design to create.
- Outdoor living Mention seating, dining, entertaining, pathways, screening or other garden spaces that should become part of the landscape composition.
- Design questions Explain which parts of the landscape feel difficult to organize or where you need a clearer relationship between planting, movement and outdoor use.
